Uganda Bugisu

"Bugisu", synonymous with top quality coffee from Uganda, is produced near Mount Elgon, a massive peak split by the borders of Uganda and Kenya.  Mt Elgon is an enormous expanse of successive plateaus where some of Africa's best organic coffees are grown.   The title "Bugisu" belongs to the tribe native to the mountain's northwestern district and who were instrumental in arresting control of the coffee industry in the area from British and European authorities in the mid 20th century.  "Bugisu" is now the name given to all coffee grown and fully processed by individual, traditional smallholder farmers that work with Kawacom, one of Uganda's top coffee exporters.
