Coffee Costs

To our coffee community,

As reported in the news, the cost of living is climbing.  It is no surprise that the cost of doing business shares this ascent.   Increases have amassed across the board; but for our morning-centric business, we have seen extraordinary upsurges in the costs of our primary ingredients including eggs, cocoa and coffee.

In spite of our desire to “ride out” these soaring market fluctuations, we can no longer absorb the rising costs.  Unfortunately, this requires adjusting our prices. We know price increases are rarely welcome, so we would like to share some information why this is happening now.

Though often volatile, green coffee prices have reached unprecedented highs since the start of 2025.  Many long-standing factors are at play including huge increases in shipping rates, rising coffee consumption world-wide, lower crop yields and supply shortages due to climate related challenges.  These existing circumstances coupled with increased political instability, threats of tariffs and the elimination of USAID support to coffee-producing communities has reinforced the precariousness of the global coffee market.  As well, commodity traders and speculators have heightened the rise of the “C price” for coffee. 

Similarly, cocoa prices skyrocketed in 2024 primarily due to a supply deficit caused by extreme weather conditions in western Africa.  While avian influenza is at the root of our current egg crisis, where wholesale prices recently reached record levels.  Compounded by the rising labor and operational costs we are experiencing, re-evaluate our pricing has become necessary.

Rather than cut corners on quality, we remain committed to offering exceptional coffee and serving the same high-quality breakfast you have come to expect.  We will do our best to keep prices fair while seeking to remain sustainable in light of the ever-changing market conditions.
